Throughout our lives, each of us discovers that we have passions and talents, that we excel in a particular field, or that we have displayed a certain character trait since early childhood. How can this phenomenon be explained?
Do we come into the world with an inner calling, a predetermined purpose, or is everything we are the result of the experiences and influences to which we are exposed?
Psychoanalysis, for its part, has offered various interpretations: Freud and Jung proposed theories that were radically different from one another, right up to James Hillman, a post-Jungian psychoanalyst who dedicated one of his most famous works to this subject: The Code of the Soul: Character, Destiny and Vocation.
