Lazag recreation area
A 4.1-hectare recreational area on the Passer river with a pond, walking paths and parts of the remaining Merano floodplain forest.
The Lazag recreation area is located approximately one kilometer north of Merano's city center, on the left bank of the Passirio River, near the cycle path that connects Merano to the Passirio Valley. The recreation area was created in 2003/2004 and renovated in 2016. It covers approximately 4.1 hectares and includes a 2,500-square-meter lake. The area also includes part of an alluvial black alder forest, one of the last of its kind in the municipality. Visitors can reach Lazag on foot via the Gilf-Lazago trail or by bicycle via the Vicolo Lazago cycle path. The area is suitable for hiking, cycling, barbecues, and picnics.
Public transport
From Merano train station, we recommend taking bus line 3 and getting off at the "Lazago" stop. From there, a 25-minute walk and panoramic views will take you to your destination.
Description to arrive at destination
The journey from Merano train station to Lazago takes 16 minutes.
Follow Viale Europa and Via Rezia towards Via Francesco Petrarca/SS44.
Take the SS44 until you reach Via S. Giorgio. From there, continue along Via Virgilio and Via Planta. The walk to your destination takes about 10 minutes.
Parking
You can park on via Planta before walking to Lazag.
Author's tip
Lazago is an ideal spot for a picnic. The pond and the Passer River create a pleasant atmosphere. There are benches, but you can also bring a blanket and picnic on the grass next to the pond. Bring food and games and enjoy the day with family and friends. You can also barbecue there, but you'll need to bring your own equipment.
Always accessible:
01.01. - 31.12.
