The restored electric locomotive from 1913, located at Johann-Tribus-Platz in central Lana, is a reminder of an important chapter in Lana's transport history. This was once the site of a freight station with a passing loop on the former Lana–Burgstall–Oberlana local railway. The electric railway opened on 13 December 1913 and played a particularly important role in the fruit trade. Thanks to the railway connection to Burgstall, apples from Lana could be transported via the wider railway network to markets far beyond the region. It was therefore no coincidence that the railway became known as the “Apple Express”.While passenger services ended in 1959, freight transport continued until 1974. In 2024, the electric locomotive, weighing approximately 20 tonnes, was transported away for extensive restoration. In cooperation with the South Tyrolean Board of Trustees for Technical Cultural Heritage and the Municipality of Lana, it was carefully restored and repainted in its original historic colours. In October 2026, it was returned to Johann-Tribus-Platz in Lana.Today, this historic electric locomotive stands as a visible reminder of Lana's railway heritage and economic development.
