Elisabeth Park

Elisabeth Park is a public park on the left bank of the Passer River in Merano. Established in 1860, it covers approximately 7,100 square meters and is one of the city's historic green spaces. It is named after Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sisi, who visited Merano several times in the late 19th century. In 1903, a marble statue of the Empress, created by the sculptor Hermann Klotz, was erected in the park, and it remains one of its most recognizable landmarks. The park features two fountains, shaded walking paths, benches, a playground, and a variety of mature trees. It connects to the summer promenade, making it an ideal stop for a stroll along the river. Thanks to its central location, Elisabeth Park is easily accessible on foot from many of Merano's attractions. Today, it serves as a public space for relaxation while also reflecting the city's historical importance to spa tourism in the 19th century.

From Merano Central Station, take city bus lines 1 or 4 and get off at the Parco Elisabetta stop on Via Cavour. From there, cross the road and, before the post office bridge, turn right and continue for about 50 meters to the park.

From the city center, the park is a 5-minute walk or a short bike ride along the bike path that passes by the Merano Thermal Baths and ends at the Ponte delle Poste bridge.

Bicycle parking is available in front of the San Giuseppe Clinic, in Marconi Park. Please be careful not to leave bicycles and e-scooters parked haphazardly. They can pose a danger to blind and visually impaired people, as they hinder pedestrian safety and the identification of entrances. Wheelchair users and parents with strollers may also be hindered by improperly parked bicycles. Please use the designated bicycle parking areas.

To adapt to the high temperatures in summer, you can take the following measures:

• Wear light-colored, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing made of natural fibers such as linen to stay cool. Wear a hat or cap to protect your face from the sun and sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV rays.

• Use a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (at least SPF 30) and reapply it regularly, especially when you are sweating.

• Bring a reusable water bottle that can be refilled at the fountains along the trail and drink regularly to stay hydrated. The drinking fountains have water flowing from spring to autumn. Depending on the weather and temperatures, the fountains are in operation from early/mid-April to mid/late October.
