Summer evenings - Von Fern und Ferner in german
No booking required. Limited places available. Donations welcome. In german language.
The series of events draws on the cosmopolitan origins of the Fromm family of collectors, but not exclusively so: beyond the family history, it also focuses on life in Merano at that time, from 1905 onwards. It was in that year that the family first chose Merano as a health resort; they were integrated into social life and played an active role in shaping it. This year, the focus is on the following themes: sacramental wine, music, architecture and literature.
Schloss Rametz - Castle
An ideal home for the wine merchant Franz Fromm
Herta Waldner, Astrid Schwarz
Among the series of rented residences, Rametz was a highlight: a castle and a historic vineyard dating back to 1227. After just one spa season in Merano, Franz Fromm, with his four minor children and their governesses, preferred private accommodation and moved first to Labers Castle and then to Villa Hellbrunn. In 1910, the family gave up the villa in Barcelona and all their belongings were transported via Trieste to Merano. After brief stays at Riedenstein and Labers Castles, the wine merchant moved into Rametz Castle in 1912. He rented the stately, two-storey apartment with direct access from the inner courtyard and took up residence there with his collection of works of art, decorative arts and furniture.
In collaboration with the Schloss Rametz.
