Sustainability in Hafling-Vöran-Meran 2000

Together for sustainable tourism

The Tschögglberg vacation region was awarded the international GSTC certification (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) and the South Tyrol Level 3 sustainability label at the beginning of 2025 in collaboration with the Hafling-Vöran-Meran 2000, Jenesien and Mölten tourism associations. The aim of this project was and is to turn the Tschögglberg into a sustainable tourism destination.

To achieve this goal, a strategy was developed to show ways in which tourism can support the local community and nature without jeopardizing their integrity. The aim is to create a balance between the environment, social well-being and economic viability, thereby protecting and promoting the Tschögglberg habitat.

The many facets of our commitment are, on the one hand, the result of a strategic orientation of our destination as a hiking and nature paradise that was developed with great care years ago, the fruits of which we can now reap and present. Secondly, there are concrete measures that we have taken and will continue to take in order to constantly improve and ensure that our wonderful region remains liveable and worth living in for guests and everyone who lives here in the future.

What are we doing as the hafling-vöran-meran 2000 tourism association for sustainable tourism?

Sustainable management

  • We take care to purchase sustainable products.
  • Our brochures are printed on FSC paper.
  • Our employees' blazers are made from certified sustainable fabric by a South Tyrolean tailor.
  • When selecting our gadgets/sales items, we pay attention to the use of sustainable materials (e.g. stainless steel drinking bottles with bamboo caps).
  • The signposts were made from South Tyrolean wood by a South Tyrolean company.
  • Which electricity provider do we have? Do we use green electricity?
  • Events?
  • Sustainable water consumption in the office (toilet with economy button, Soda Stream instead of bottled mineral water)
  • Do we use ecological cleaning agents?
  • Who are our certified businesses?
  • Guests can use the South Tyrol Guest Pass to discover South Tyrol by public transport
  • Drinking water dispensers have been installed at selected locations.
  • Organization and participation in local waste collection campaigns

Socio-economic sustainability

  • We mainly commission local craftsmen.
  • We pay attention to local purchasing in South Tyrolean shops.
  • We promote cooperation between producers and restaurateurs
  • We promote the well-being of our employees (communication, people at the centre, flexible working hours, opportunities for further training, health and pension provision)
  • The company allows flexible working hours so that employees can use public transport to get to work.
  • What information boards/graphics do we have and why? (Risk management)
  • How do we inform guests and businesses about acute danger situations?

Cultural sustainability

  • We support local cultural organisations.
  • We promote the Haflinger horse (riding club).
  • We are actively involved in the preservation of cultural assets (thatched roofs in Vöran).

Think globally, act locally.
According to this motto, we are taking this path into the future together with our neighbours Mölten and Jenesien. You can find all the details, measures, analyses and other projects here.
