Via Ferrata Tracks and Mountain Trails in Avelengo – Verano – Merano 2000

Climbing in the sun on a plateau above Merano

The Avelengo – Verano – Merano 2000/Hafling – Vöran – Meran 2000 climbing area is a haven for mountaineering enthusiasts. From the Mittager, Ifinger and Plattenspitzen Peaks there are fantastic views of the Ortler Group and the Dolomites to enjoy. Thanks to the cableway from Merano/Meran and another from Falzeben/Avelengo, reaching the high mountain trails is easy.

The “Heini Holzer” via ferrata on the Ifinger mountain is accessible via the Piffing cableway mountain station on the Merano 2000 plateau. The via ferrata across the rock face includes some exposed sections but is safely secured with steel chains. Strapped into their harnesses, children used to rope-climbing can also manage it. The final and most demanding stretch to the summit at 2,851m, is reserved for the more experienced and adventurous mountaineers.

Coming off the heights, why not treat yourself to a sumptuous break in one of the mountain huts and shelters with a speck, cheese and rye-bread snack, a typical South Tyrolean Marende. Just what is needed for the slow return down to the valley.
