Rundegg Castle

The origins of Rundegg Castle in Maia Alta date back to the 14th century, when it consisted of a simple residential tower. In the 17th century, the complex was expanded into a more prestigious aristocratic residence with the addition of further buildings, gardens, and decorative elements.

Over the centuries, Rundegg Castle changed hands several times and developed into a significant historical property in Merano. In 1978, the building was converted into a hotel.

Today, Rundegg Castle operates as a boutique hotel, preserving the character of its historic architecture. The building combines traditional elements such as the historic structure and gardens with modern amenities. It is a remarkable example of the connection between Merano's architectural heritage and its long tradition as a spa and wellness resort.

If you are at Merano train station, we recommend taking bus line 1 and getting off after eleven stops at the "Merano, Rundegg" stop. From there it is only about a 1-minute walk to the castle.

To reach Castel Rundegg from Merano Station, take Viale Europa and continue along Via Rezia until you reach Via Petrarca/SS44. Continue driving on SS44 for about four minutes, then take Via Cavour and follow the signs for Via Scena. You'll find your destination on the right at number 2, after a total of 2.8 kilometers (1.7 miles) that can be covered in about 10 minutes.

The "Parkhaus Obermais" parking lot is nearby. From there it's a 2-minute walk to the castle.
