Book presentation in german - Innerstädtischer Tod
Christoph Peters explores family tensions and political radicalization, shedding light on the deep fractures that run through our society. In german language.
It is November 9, 2022. The Russian attack on Ukraine casts a shadow over both private and public life. That evening, the first solo exhibition of promising artist Fabian Kolb opens at the renowned Konrad Raspe Gallery in Berlin. Fabian’s family, owners of the last tie manufacturing business in Krefeld, has traveled especially for the occasion. His uncle, Hermann Carius, an aging ideologue of the "New Right" in the Bundestag, is considering a media-savvy appearance at the vernissage, while Fabian’s father hopes to use his brother-in-law’s international connections to continue exporting goods to Russia. The closer the exhibition draws, the more Fabian begins to question whether he is truly willing to accept all the compromises that an international artistic career demands—especially now that his gallerist is suddenly facing serious allegations from former female employees.
Christoph Peters was born in Kalkar in 1966. He is the author of numerous novels and short story collections, and has received several awards for his work, including the Wolfgang Koeppen Prize (2018), the Thomas Valentin Literary Prize of the city of Lippstadt (2021), and the Lower Rhine Literary Prize (1999 and 2022). He currently lives in Berlin. Most recently, he has published the first two volumes of a trilogy inspired by Wolfgang Koeppen with Luchterhand: "Der Sandkasten" (2022) and "Krähen im Park" (2023).
