Riffianer Waalweg Trail

Easy hiking trail along the ancient Waal (irrigation channel)

Directions

Start your hike at the tourist office in Riffian and follow the Kirchweg (no. 5), passing the pilgrimage church until you reach the small valley "Pougntol". From there, take trail no. 3B in the direction of the Riffianer Waalweg Trail (irrigation channel). After about a 10-minute walk, you reach the irrigation channel trail.

This trail leads you pleasantly through shady forests and along the forest edge above Riffian to Kuens, where it ends in the Kuenser Valley.

Please note: the irrigation channel does not carry water.

For the return, you have two options:

1. hike back to Riffian via Hochüblweg and Hohlgasse (trail no. 21)
2. or take the bus back to Riffian (ATTENTION: summer service only)

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Recommended equipment

Wear sturdy hiking botts, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.

Description to arrive at destination

• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to Riffian
• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards Meran, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to Riffian
• Coming from the Timmelsjoch towards Moos, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße towards Riffian

Choose an environmentally friendly way to travel and use our public transport:  

• Bus line 240 from Meran towards St. Leonhard,Moos, Pfelders
• Bus line 240 from Pfelders, Moos, St. Leonhard towards Meran
