Rushing Waterfalls, Dramatic Gorges and Peaceful Places

In Lana and its surroundings near Merano, roaring waterfalls, deep gorges and historic sites with sweeping views await you. Surrounded by rocky cliffs, forests and mountain landscapes, you'll find plenty of places to explore and experience South Tyrol's natural beauty in different ways.

Waterfalls and gorges around Lana
Among the region's most impressive waterfalls are the Brandis Waterfall, at the end of the Brandis Waalweg irrigation channel trail in Lana, the Aschlbach Waterfall near Kröll Tower in Gargazzone, and the Fragsburg Waterfall near Merano, which drops approximately 135 metres. The Gaul Gorge, just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Lana, is also well worth a visit. Steep rock faces, walkways and bridges, together with the rushing waters of the Falschauer River, define this dramatic gorge landscape.

Places of energy on Mount Vigiljoch and near St. Hippolyt
If you're looking for peace and special places steeped in history, you'll find two very different places of energy on Mount Vigiljoch, above Lana, and on the hill of St. Hippolyt, near Naraun. Car-free Mount Vigiljoch offers forests, hiking trails and the small Church of St. Vigilius. Here you can enjoy the mountain scenery far away from road traffic.

The hill of St. Hippolyt, on the other hand, is best known for its long history and panoramic location. Around the small church, you'll enjoy sweeping views across the Adige Valley and the surrounding mountains. A place where nature, history and landscape come together in a truly special way.
