Merano and Environs in South Tyrol

The spa town of Merano lies in the heart of the region of South Tyrol on the southern side of the Alps. Due to its location, this multicultural city is considered as the gateway to the south of Europe, as well as a meeting place between different cultures.

Merano and its surrounding towns and valleys benefit in many ways from their favorable location. The Merano basin offers a mild climate year round, creating a unique atmosphere where Mediterranean gardens in full bloom sit beneath snow-covered Alpine peaks. This mixture of Germanic and Italian culture has also led to a specific local cuisine characterized by both Mediterranean and Alpine traditions.

In Algund, regional quality meets pure culinary pleasure: fresh products straight from fields, farms and gardens are carefully prepared and served on your plate, from fruit and vegetables to dairy products from the local creamery.👨‍🍳🍽

And anyone who truly wants to taste South Tyrol should not miss one of its most traditional dishes: homemade dumplings, whether nettle, spinach, classic with speck or simply with butter and Parmesan, a culinary classic that perfectly reflects Alpine food culture.

Tisens-Prissian is distinguished by its exceptional density of protected historic buildings. After Glurns, it has the second-highest number of listed buildings in South Tyrol in relation to its population, with a total of 51 protected monuments. Among them is the St. Nicholas Church, which has been under monument protection since 1981. ⛪❄

Adjoining the church is the Widum, the most recently listed building in the village, officially placed under protection in March 2024. Together, these structures reflect the rich cultural heritage of Tisens-Prissian, set within an unspoiled natural landscape above the valley.
