Vigiljoch Cable Car – The gateway to a car-free natural paradise

The Vigiljoch is reached by Europe’s third-oldest aerial cable car, originally built in 1912. In August 2023 this historic lift was completely renewed and brought up to the latest state-of-the-art technology. Since then, it has connected the centre of Lana with the car-free hiking area of the Vigiljoch even more comfortably and quickly.

The spacious, modern cabins can accommodate up to 40 people and guarantee a pleasant ride. In just 6 minutes you reach the mountain station at around 1,500 m above sea level, right in the middle of a peaceful oasis – ideal for hiking, mountain bike tours, or simply for relaxing in untouched nature.

A special advantage: the cable car is barrier-free, both at the valley station and at the mountain station. This makes the ride convenient for everyone – whether with a stroller or a wheelchair.

From the mountain station, the single-chair lift takes you even further into the hiking area. Within minutes you gently glide up to around 1,800 m with a magnificent panoramic view of the Dolomites. 15 uplifting minutes of peace and solitude with nature is how long the tranquil journey lasts, leading over picturesque larch forests and walking paths – a small experience in itself. At the top, there is a forest playground for children, and it is the ideal starting point for walks, panoramic hikes, or a visit to the landmark of the Vigiljoch, the little church.

On the Vigiljoch there are numerous hiking trails, always well prepared even in winter and suitable for every fitness level – from easy walks through alpine meadows and larch woods to extended panoramic tours or even a summit hike to the “Hochwart”. Along the way, cosy mountain inns and alpine huts invite you to stop and enjoy South Tyrolean specialties together with the marvellous views.

The valley station is located right in the centre of Lana, only a three-minute walk from the Oberlana bus station. Arrival by public transport is therefore particularly easy and sustainable. In addition, a limited number of paid parking spaces are available directly at the valley station.

Tickets are available at the valley station of the cable car.
Up-to-date information on prices, timetables and offers can always be found at www.vigiljoch.com.

Chairlift

Elsewhere admired only as a vintage exhibition piece, the nostalgic single chairlift at Vigiljoch has been swaying comfortably and safely for many decades up to 1,814 m above sea level. After first reaching the car-free plateau with the cable car from Lana, the peaceful ride on the chairlift begins: 15 uplifting minutes of silence and solitude with nature, gliding over picturesque larch forests and walking paths – a small experience in itself.

The mountain station is located close to the historic little church at Vigiljoch and offers even more: a forest playground for children, a panoramic platform overlooking the Adige Valley, and it is the starting point for numerous hikes in all directions. Along the way, cosy alpine huts and mountain inns invite you to stop and enjoy South Tyrolean specialties together with the breathtaking views.
