Merano in 4 Days
The historic spa town fascinates with its contrast between Alpine and Mediterranean: go for a stroll, follow the river flow, linger spontaneously, relax and enjoy an aperitif. Merano offers a unique variety and quality of unforgettable experiences. However, you should not miss these...

1. Botanical discoveries

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle is, with its eighty garden landscapes, among the most beautiful destinations in Merano. Plants from all around the world, multifaceted Experience Stations and spectacular themed gardens turn the Gardens into a colorful world. The "Matteo Thun's viewing platform" offers spectacular views of exotic gardens and breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains and the town of Merano.

2. Let body, mind and soul relax
Just drift away, submerge, switch off. The thermal baths "Terme Merano" are a place of peace and relaxation – in the middle of the idyllic city of Merano. With its 25 pools in total in the bathing hall and in the thermal park, a stylishly designed sauna area and a spacious relaxation rooms offers something for everyone. A pleasure for all senses!

3. Poetic benches
The Gilf Promenade is one of Merano´s most romantic walks. It ends at a gorge, where the Passer River enters Merano. The walk is particularly interesting from a botanical point of view, since it features numerous subtropical plants. The Gilf Promenade features verses of well-known poets inscribed onto the wooden benches lining the walking path - all poets have lived temporarily or permanently in Merano.

4. A jump in the past
The Merano Racecourse, often referred to as "Maia Racecourse" is one of the biggest attractions of Merano and hosts international steeplechases and flat races. Inaugurated in 1935 it still ranks among Europe's most beautiful horse racing venues.

5. Unexpected finds
The former City Museum is now located in the newly renovated baroque Palais at Piazza Duomo. The exhibition of the Palais Mamming Museum gives an overview of Merano's historical development. Some exotic exhibits give this collection its special charm: an Egyptian mummy, a collection of Sudanese weapons of Slatin Pascha, a prototype of Peter Mitterhofer's typewriter and one of Napoleon's death masks.

6. Authentic character
In the Portici Arcade, one of the main shopping streets of the old town, you can still find various owner-managed, traditional shops. Here you can stroll in a quiet atmosphere even on rainy days, because the typical arcade shape offers good protection even in bad weather. Regional products and crafts can also be found at the Merano Market, which has become the central meeting place on Saturday morning.

7. A coffee please!

Roasted coffee beans, passionate baristas and that distinctive scent: strong, black and aromatic it satisfies all the senses. Coffee is one of the most rooted pleasures in Italy and according to the latest findings it is even healthy. In Merano you can enjoy real espresso, macchiato or cappuccino in a particularly stylish way: whether with delicious cake, a magazine or just enjoying the coffee and a pleasant conversation while sitting outdoors kissed by the sun.
8. Great heights
It won't take a minute and you will find yourself on the sun terrace of Merano. Hiking trails, mountain peaks, fun for young and old and a breathtaking panorama from the Ortles to the Dolomites - Merano 2000 is an inviting chance to leave the city for the mountains for a day. The Merano 2000 Cable Car, easily reachable with public transportation, is located just a few minutes from the city centre.
