Passer Gorge Trail "Passerschlucht"

Hiking through the wild Passer Gorge

The trail, with a total length of approximately 7.8 km, runs from St Leonhard to Moos.

The trail is not suitable for pushchairs and cannot be used by bicycle.

Directions

Starting from St. Leonhard:

The trail into the Passer Gorge (no. 1) starts at the village bridge in St. Leonhard in Passeier. You first follow the Passeirer Straße towards the Jaufenpass and after a few meters turn left into A.-Hofer-Straße. Follow it to the electrical shop, then head right uphill to the roundabout. Here, you cross the road twice, then turn right onto Gänsboden and continue past the sports field and swimming pool to the bridge below the hamlet of Gomion.

You cross the bridge to the left and then walk to the right, heading up the valley into the Passer Gorge. The trail winds along the river at water level, crossing steep rocks faces and narrow gorge sections via bridges and walkways.

About halfway, the path becomes steeper. From here, you get a view of the Stuller Waterfall.

The trail then continues with gentle ups and downs through dense forest to the retention dam below Moos in Passeier (about 2.5 hours). From here, you can choose between three hiking options:

1) Turn right and walk uphill to the centre of Moos (Trail No. 1, approx. 20 minutes).

2) Turn left and follow the river (with some uphill sections) to the impressive Stieber Waterfall, then continue to Moos (Trail No. 1A, approx. 40 minutes).

3) Turn left and follow the fairly steep path up to Platt (Trail No. 1B, approx. 50 minutes).

Return to the starting point by bus (bus line 240).

Starting from Moos:

From the bus stop or the car parks in the centre of Moos, the route leads to the church. From here, you can choose between two hiking options:

1) At the bend below the church, turn left and follow the signs for the Passeier Gorge (Trail No. 1).

2) Below the church, follow the pavement towards Pfelders, cross the old wooden bridge and continue for approximately 250 metres along the Pfelders road until you reach the junction on the left signposted "Stieber Wasserfall". Follow the hiking trail past the waterfall to the junction at the edge of the forest, then descend to the retention basin, where the Passeier Gorge trail continues towards St. Leonhard. For the remainder of the route, see the description "Starting from St. Leonhard".
