Walks from between 300 to 3,000 m altitude in Merano and Environs

In the village of Lana and its surroundings near the spa town of Merano/Meran, hikers will find a wealth of possibilities in terms of easy hiking trails. Walks in Lana can be found throughout the municipality. Simple walks and promenades lead along the Sculpture Trail into the Ländpromenade, and into the wild and romantic Gaulschlucht gorge. Also worthwhile is the few kilometer-long Brandis Waalweg trail: a flat running panoramic path alongside the famous South Tyrolean water canals that runs along the mountain above Lana, ending at the Brandis waterfall. In Lana di Sotto/Niederlana, near the ruins of Brandis Castle, is the starting point for hikes to Ackpfeif and the panoramic hill of St. Hippolyt.

Hiking trails in the area
In Merano and Environs, there are hiking trails from between 300 meters above sea level in the valley to over 3000 m above sea level at the summit. Those who prefer more gentle routes can hike along the Merano basin, along the 80 km long Meraner Waalrunde Circuit Trail. Experienced mountaineers take multi-day hikes to the Texelgruppe Nature Park on the scenic Merano High Mountain trail. The European Long-Distance Trail E 5, the Tyrolean High Mountain Trail and the Sarntal Valley Hufeisentour circuit route lead through high Alpine landscapes.

Many of the well-marked hiking trails in Lana and the surrounding area start virtually at your doorstep, while others can be reached quickly via cable car, chairlift and public transport. Thanks to the mild local climate, the hiking season in Lana and the surrounding area begins in March and only ends in late autumn.
