Typical South Tyrolean Cuisine in Marlengo

Local cuisine in the land of the apple and grape

High quality and local tradition are the hallmarks of cuisine in the valleys and mountains around Marlengo/Marling. In elegant restaurants, rustic inns or mountain huts and shelters, South Tyrolean cuisine is always fresh and authentic. Standards are high, and all four of the mountain huts and shelters around Marlengo have received the Real Quality in the Mountains Award.

Local South Tyrolean cuisine features prominently on the menus of the restaurants and mountain huts around Marlengo. A meeting place between two cultures, South Tyrol brings together even at the table the influences of both the Alpine and Mediterranean approach. Local specialties include wine, chocolates, and potato ravioli. Grown at a high altitude, mountain asparagus has a distinctive and full flavor. Wine-filled chocolates represent a new creation in an area where wine growing has always been prominent. Three types of chocolate fillings are offered: sweet white wine, milk blended with Merlot, and grappa-flavored dark chocolate. Potato ravioli are the savory highlight of local cuisine in Marlengo, and are further enhanced by a glass of fine wine, which is never in short supply at local restaurants.

Wine tastings are organized by the Merano Burggräfler Winery, the South Tyrolean Winegrowers Association, and other local wineries.
