Exhibition: Mary´s dream - Portrait of a lady

«To be gentildonna in a lost town in the mountains. On a balcony with an iron railing...» (EP, Canto LXXVIII)

Born from the collaboration of Palais Mamming Museum with Brunnenburg and the Merano Academy, the exhibition tells the story of a woman, the work of a poetess, Mary de Rachewiltz, who turns 100 this year. The story of a life woven with the simple everyday and the intellectual richness of literary circles, universities, publishing houses and libraries in Europe and America, friendships with writers, poets and artists.
It is the story of a woman who knew how to be both “peasant” and “princess,” who knew how to speak, dream, and compose in Tyrolean dialect, Italian and English. The sugar maples at the entrance of the museum, a gift
from her father/poet years before, symbolize Mary’s Dream, a dream that connects the lush rural world to that of literature and poetry.
