Mountain Huts and Pastures in Naturns

Food and drink in the high mountains

The mountain huts around Naturns are known for their hospitality, traditional cuisine and sunny terraces. Regional cuisine, including dumpling soup (Knödelsuppe), typical South Tyrolean afternoon snacks of bacon and cheese with flatbread (Marende), Vinschger Paarlen and apple strudel, is served here in centuries-old farmhouse parlors.

The following mountain huts on the Naturnser Nörderberg mountain invite you to take a break:
Hofschank Brandhof  1.044 m
Zetn Alm 1.747 m
Mauslochalm 1.837 m
Tablander Alm 1.758 m
Naturnser Alm 1.922 m

The following mountain pastures and huts are located on the Naturnser Sonnenberg mountain:
Weinberghof ca. 600 m
Weintal ca. 600 m
Schwalbennest  665 m
Gasthaus Unterstell 1.300 m
Mountain pasture Galmein 1.384 m
Mountain pasture Patleidhof (closed)  1.386 m
Mountain pasture Pirchhof 1.445 m
Mountain pasture Linthof 1.464 m
Mountain pasture Wald 1.505 m

In addition to the tastes of South Tyrolean cuisine, the mountain huts and pastures in Naturns also often offer rooms or lodging for weary travelers. The opening times of these shelters depend on weather and snow conditions, and therefore it is advisable to check opening times in advance.

Castel Lebenberg in Tscherms is one of the largest and best preserved castles in South Tyrol, dating back to the 13th century. Expanded over time, it combines architectural styles from the Middle Ages to the Rococo. During a guided tour, available until the end of October from Monday to Thursday, visitors can discover highlights such as the three storey chapel, the French garden, and elegant rooms like the Hall of Mirrors and the Knights’ Hall. ✨🏰

On Easter Monday, the racing season opens in Merano with the traditional Haflinger Horse Races, accompanied by a festive parade through the city center featuring horses and riders in South Tyrolean costume.🏇🏁

Celebrating its 130th edition, this unique event is exclusively dedicated to Haflinger horses and combines living heritage with professional sport. A special highlight this year is the nostalgic “Bauerngalopprennen anno dazumal”, where former child riders aged 50 and over return to the track, reviving the spirit of the historic race.
