During the late Middle Ages, as the population grew, year-round farms were built up to an altitude of 2,000 meters. The highest-altitude farms in South Tyrol, which were cultivated year-round until about 100 years ago, are located in the
Texelgruppe/Gruppo di tessa nature park: the Obermairalm, the Rableidhof, the Matzlaunhof, and the Eishof. Located at around 2,000 meters above sea level, these farms continue to be used for summer alpine farming and, in some cases, as places for hikers to
stop and rest.
