The Passeiertal Valley is a true anglers’ paradise, with the scenic Passer River meandering through this fertile valley. The sheer abundance and variety of freshwater fish populating the crystal-clear waters of the river and mountain lakes contribute to making this an authentic fly-fishing paradise. Fishing in the Passeiertal Valley is regulated and a local (Italian) fishing permit is required. At a cost of € 40, it can be purchased at the St. Martin/S. Martino and St. Leonhard/S. Leonardo tourist offices. An ID card or passport is required for verification purposes. Permit is valid for 10 years.
Besides the fishing permit, a Freshwater fishing card (day-pass) is also required, depending on the respective fishing zones, as shown below.
According to provincial law No. 3 of February 13, 2023, article 14, paragraph 8, adolescent under the age of 16 do not need their own fishing permit or license, but can use the one of the accompanying adult angler. Therefore, they are not allowed to use additional fishing rods. For example, if both are fishing in a stream, they are only allowed to use one rod together.
Zone C (No Kill) – Barbless flies:
- Zone C extends roughly over a 10 km area, from the Huli dam to the Granstein sill (St. Leonhard – Quellenhof/Sorgente).
- Adults: € 60 + € 10 deposit – max. 4 catches (rainbow trout over 25 cm)
- Day-pass available from: Radlstadl bar, Camping Passeier, St. Martin tourist office, Martinerhof brewery, Pfandleralm bar, St. Leonhard tourist office.
- From 09.02.2025 / until 31.10.2025. Daily: one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.
Zone A – Baits restricted to those permitted under local regulations:
- Zone A: approx. 6 km long, it extends from the inflow of the Formazonbach torrent to the Fuxensteg bridge near Bergkristall & from the Untersteinerbrücke bridge to Zeppichl (Platt/Plata – Pfelders/Plan).
• Valid pass for zones A/A1
- Adults: € 30 + € 10 deposit – max. 4 catches (rainbow trout over 25 cm)
- Pass available from Innerhütt inn, Kresspichlguet farm, Zum Karl Bar, Edelweiss inn

Zone A1 – Barbless flies:
- Zone A1 extends for approx. 1 km, from the Fuxensteg bridge near Bergkristall to the Untersteiner-brücke bridge (Pfelders).

- Adults: € 30 + € 10 deposit – max. 4 catches (rainbow trout over 25 cm).
- Pass available from Innerhütt inn, Kresspichlguet farm, Zum Karl Bar, Edelweiss inn
- From 09.02.2025 / until 30.09.2025. Daily: one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.
Mountain lakes – baits restricted to those permitted under local regulations
- Seeber See, Großer Schwarzsee & Kleiner Schwarzsee lakes (in the direction of Timmelsjoch pass, all lakes can only be reached on foot)
- Single price (valid for all lakes): € 22 + € 3 deposit
- max. 4 catches (char over 27 cm).
