How to reach Naturns by car

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR TRAVELING TO NATURNS:
Anyone traveling from the north via the Brenner Autobahn to South Tyrol needs a vignette for the section of the route in Austria. The digital vignette can be easily purchased online in advance. To cross the Brenner Pass quickly, it is recommended to pay the toll online in advance: this way, you can pass through the toll station using specially designated barriers. The Italian highways are toll roads. Through the private provider Tolltickets, you can purchase a Telepass to bypass wait times at the toll stations. The Telepass can be sent to you by mail or picked up at a so-called Pickup Station.

You can get current information about traffic conditions in South Tyrol from the Traffic Reporting Center.

With an Electric Car
South Tyrol has a good network of charging stations: If you are traveling by electric car, you can conveniently charge your vehicle at one of the charging stations.

Limited Accessibility on the Reschen Pass Road from September 2024 to December 2026
The Reschen Pass Road (B180) will be only partially accessible from September 2024 until the end of 2026. The reason for this is the construction of a rockfall protection gallery in the Austrian section between Pfunds and Nauders. Temporary closures will be necessary to complete this protective structure.

Closures 2026:
April 13 – May 8, 2026: Monday–Friday -> 07:30–12:30 and 13:30–18:00
April 21, 2026: continuous closure from 07:30 to 18:00 due to the Tour of the Alps
August 31 – October 30, 2026: Monday–Thursday -> 07:30–18:00; Friday -> 07:30–14:00

Detour via Switzerland during the Closure of the Reschen Pass Road
During the closure periods, we recommend using the detour via Switzerland. This alternative route runs along the Engadine Road (B184) and the Martinsbruck Road (B185), bypassing the closed section between Pfunds and Nauders. The detour adds just 6.6 kilometers to the usual route. Depending on traffic conditions, the additional travel time is approximately 10 minutes. A detailed map of the route (Pfunds – Nauders) is available on Google Maps.

Important Information for Specific Vehicle Types:
- Mobilhomes may use the detour without restrictions. However, if the total weight exceeds 3.5 tons, a fee of 5 euros must be paid at the Swiss customs station in Martina.
- Caravans and trailers are permitted on the route only if the trailer length does not exceed 6.5 meters.
- Trucks, vehicles with trailers over 6.5 meters, and buses longer than 13 meters are not allowed on this route and must use large-scale detours.

IMPORTANT:
Changed traffic routing 2025–2026
- Until November 2026, traffic will be managed in a single lane with traffic-light control.
- From September to November 2026, there will be a final full closure for finishing construction work and asphalt paving.

Renovation of the Lueg Bridge – Brenner Autobahn A13 (Austrian side)

Starting from January 1, 2025, the Lueg Bridge on the Brenner Autobahn A13 will have limited accessibility due to extensive renovation work. During periods of heavy traffic, a temporary second lane will be established to maintain the best possible traffic flow. At the same time, construction will begin on a new bridge that will make traffic smoother and more efficient in the future.

Two-lane traffic on the Lueg Bridge
On days with increased traffic, a temporary second lane will be set up to improve traffic flow. Vehicles over 3.5 tons are required to use the left, inner lane to relieve the load on the supporting structure. Passenger cars may use both lanes.

To help you plan your trip to Naturns and Plaus with ease, you’ll find the current 2026 traffic schedule for the Lueg Bridge here.

The renovation of the Lueg Bridge is divided into three main phases: first, the new supporting structure is built; then the existing bridge is dismantled. Afterwards, all construction work is completed.
Final completion is expected in 2030.
