Lana and the surrounding villages of Cermes/Tscherms, Foiana/Völlan, Vigiljoch, Postal/Burgstall and Gargazzone/Gargazon are situated at altitudes of between 267 — 1,837m a.s.l.. The vegetation and habitats range from the wetlands in the valley, which provide sanctuary to 200 species of birds, to an alpine environment close to the tree line. A fruit-farming area, this part of South Tyrol enjoys a high standard of living and a rich cultural life, with numerous recreation and leisure facilities.
Near Cermes, the Lebenberg Castle and the Kränzelhof – Seven Gardens estate are architectural wonders in their own right, while Foiana has long been recognized as a health resort thanks to its pure mountain air. Both Foiana and Vigiljoch are also popular holiday resorts. Postal and Gargazzone, two adjacent villages on the opposite bank of the Etsch river, are known for their excellent local cuisine and close proximity to the cycling path network. There is also a chlorine-free natural swimming pool and a 5000 m2 children’s playground in Gargazzone.
