Sustainability, environmental awareness and quality are all of the utmost importance in South Tyrolean agriculture. To keep up with the highest levels of standards and product quality in the future, the strict control mechanisms of the holiday region of Merano and environs are completed by the award "Real Quality in the Mountains".
This supports the quality of South Tyrolean products and, last but not least, the genuine love of farmers and innkeepers for their own production.
Above all, the initiative "Real Quality in the Mountains" awards those mountain hut owners who conduct their business with great dedication, and even under mountain conditions guarantee genuine authenticity and quality in their offerings.
The award is granted by the IDM South Tyrol to all those mountain inns and huts which can reach at least "40 suns" in a prescribed self-assessment test.
To the award-winning businesses in Lana and surroundings belong the Mariolberger farm in San Pancrazio/St. Pankraz, in the typical Val d'Ultimo/Ultental valley, and the Hoferhof in Cermes/Tscherms, located near Lana and just above Castle Lebenberg, which offers a wonderful view of the Adige Valley.
Local farm produce is skillfully transformed into traditional specialties, as served in the alpine huts and shelters in Lana and Environs. Even the natural materials used to renovate farm buildings are sourced locally, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Selected huts and shelters receive the Real Quality in the Mountains label, as an acknowledgement of their authenticity and commitment to excellence.
In Lana and Environs, the Real Quality in the Mountains label was awarded to the Hoferhof inn above Cermes/Tscherms, and to the Wieslerhof, a traditional tavern in Postal/Burgstall. Available as a free download, the Real Quality in the Mountains app provides visitors with local hiking information as well as recipes contributed by selected establishments. The guide written by Christine Lasta (in Germand and Italian language) tells of her encounters with the managers of various mountain huts and shelter along the itineraries she visited.
