Winter hiking and relaxing in the sun

Even in winter, the landscape around Lana near Meran/Merano is a wonderful place to explore on foot. Thanks to the valley's mild climate, walks and hikes among apple orchards, vineyards and historic residences are often possible throughout the colder months. From leisurely strolls to longer hikes, the region offers a variety of ways to enjoy nature in winter.

In Lana, the Brandis-Waalweg irrigation channel trail leads through orchards, vineyards and woodland to the Brandis Waterfall. The paths along the Falschauer/Valsura stream are also ideal for relaxing walks. In Tscherms/Cermes, the Marlinger Waalweg irrigation channel trail offers beautiful views across the Etschtal/Valle dell'Adige and passes through a varied landscape of apple orchards and vineyards. In Burgstall/Postal, the Graf Volkmar Trail is a lovely option, while the Kröll Tower circular walk in Gargazon/Gargazzone rewards walkers with scenic views. Around Völlan/Foiana, hiking trails wind through chestnut groves and the surrounding cultivated landscape.

If you'd like to explore the mountains in winter, take the cable car up to car-free Mount Vigiljoch or travel by cable car from Burgstall/Postal to Vöran/Verano on the Tschögglberg/Monzoccolo plateau. Here, forests, meadows and panoramic hiking trails offer further opportunities to enjoy nature. Depending on snow cover and trail conditions, winter hiking and snowshoeing are possible.
