Holidays in San Leonardo
Holidays in the home village of Andreas Hofer
San Leonardo/St. Leonhard, the largest municipality in the Val Passiria Valley, nestles idyllically at the confluence of the Waltner and Passirio Rivers, at the foot of the Passo Giovo pass. The beautiful landscape and excellent climatic conditions in San Leonardo make it the ideal destination for action-loving holidaymakers, families, and those seeking rest and relaxation. As birthplace of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer, this village in the heart of the Val Passiria Valley also has a great deal of culture to offer: Sandwirt Inn, located just before the entrance to the village, is where Andreas Hofer was born; today, it houses the MuseumPasseier. San Leonardo is also characterised by its “Schildhöfe”, estates in which the aristocracy once lived, and Jaufenburg Castle, which dates from the late Middle Ages. Valtina, a delightful village for gourmets and hikers, lies next to the Passo Giovo road and is also a hamlet of San Leonardo.
