Mountain Tour to Hohe Kreuzspitze Peak (2,743 m)
A beautiful panoramic mountain with a magnificent summit cross.
Starting point: Stulles
End point: Stulles
Refreshment points: refuge Hochalm, Egger-Grub-Alm Alp, Bockhütte Alp (not directly along the route)
Directions
Ascent:
The hike starts at the parking area next to the church in Stuls (1,315 m). Following trail No. 14, you initially walk along a paved road that climbs up to Morx Puite (1,570 m). A steeper forest trail then leads to the Hochegg paid parking area, which can also be used as an alternative starting point.
From Hochegg, continue following the signs for trail No. 14. Follow the paved road until, a few metres after the third switchback, you turn left onto a forest track. After crossing two forest roads, you reach the extensive Stuller Mahder, large alpine meadows, and eventually Egger-Grub-Alm Alp (1,943 m).
From the alpine hut, trail No. 14 continues steeply uphill across alpine meadows and, in the final section, over scree-covered terrain with marble outcrops, leading to refuge Hochalm (2,174 m).
From the mountain hut, follow the Passeier High Mountain Trail No. 15 towards Schlattacher Joch ridge. The trail traverses the mountainside with relatively little elevation change until, after around 30 minutes, you turn left onto trail No. 15A.
The increasingly steep trail leads to a large scree slope and then climbs steeply through numerous switchbacks. You then traverse the mountainside to the right through rocky and scree-covered terrain until you reach the mountain ridge.
On the left-hand side of the ridge, a narrow and exposed trail leads to the flatter summit area. From there, follow trail No. 12 for the final section to the summit of the Hohe Kreuzspitze Peak (2,743 m).
Descent:
The descent initially follows the ascent route. After traversing the mountainside, however, turn onto trail No. 14, which first leads through exposed terrain secured with cables before continuing onto a narrower trail.
Following the trail, cross beautiful alpine meadows on the way back to refuge Hochalm. From there, continue along the familiar ascent route downhill to Stuls.
The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Author's tip
This beautiful mountain tour requires endurance, sure-footedness and a head for heights. Especially the narrow path at the traverse over to the ridge and the path along the ridge is very steep and exposed.
Always stay on marked trails, check the weather conditions before you hike and pay particular attention to snow, wet ground, or slippery sections.
