Hike to the Seebergsee Lake

Hike to the huts on the hunters trail

The trail downhill to the Wanser Alm Alp is very steep and narrow, but quite manageable. Once down at the lake, there are several beautiful places to enjoy.

Directions

The ascent: through the Sailertal to the Seebergsee Lake

Your hike begins at the parking area in Wans (1,439 m) near Walten. First, walk a short distance downhill, then keep left and cross the bridge. From here, follow trail no. 15 into the Sailertal valley toward the Seebergalm Alp. The path first leads through dense and pleasantly cool forest until you reach a wooden bridge where you cross the stream.

Afterwards, follow the tractor road and at the next junction turn left once again across the stream. Continue comfortably along this broad track until you reach the Seebergalm Alp (1,709 m). From the alpine hut, only a few more steps remain: in just 5 minutes you arrive at the shore of the idyllic Seebergsee Lake (1,742 m).

Good to know: Seebergsee Lake is protected as an official natural monument due to its unique beauty and ecological importance – a wonderful place to pause and enjoy the untouched natural surroundings.

The return route: via the Jägersteig to the Wanser Alm Alp

From Seebergsee Lake, continue your circular hike along the Jägersteig no. 14A. This beautiful forest path first climbs gently uphill and then descend in some sections a little more steeply. The varied trail leads you directly to the Wanser Alm Alp (1,640 m).

For the final section back to the starting point, simply follow the forest road from the alpine hut, which leads comfortably back to Wans and the parking area.

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Recommended equipment

War sturdy hiking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.

• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to Walten, after St. Leonhard

• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards Meran, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to Walten, before St. Leonhard

• Coming from the Timmelsjoch towards Moos, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße to Walten, after St. Leonhard
