The magical park of lights event in the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

In the picturesque setting of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano, a new, magical attraction awaits visitors this winter: the LUMAGICA Park of Lights, South Tyrol's only park of its kind, opens its doors on November 21st 2024 and invites you on an incomparable journey of discovery through the impressive worlds of the botanical garden. LUMAGICA is much more than a light installation - it is a tribute to the beauty of nature and the diversity of life. Each handcrafted light installation is carefully designed to capture the unique themes and moods of the garden to enchant guests of all ages. The exhibition can be admired until January 06, 2025.

Fantastic views

On a saddle below the Ifinger, 1,250 m above sea level, a small church looks far down into the Meran valley basin. It is not only the people of Hafling who have grown fond of the little St. Kathrein church with its dreamlike view for centuries. Over the years, its unparalleled setting has become the favourite place of many nature lovers, strength seekers and brides and grooms.

A long way: the history of transport in Hafling

Until the early 1980s, when the road from Meran to Hafling was finally built, the plateau below the Ifinger could only be reached by cable car, which between 1923 and 1984 carried locals and visitors from Obermais to St. Kathrein. Luis Reiterer, who was mayor of Hafling from 1974 until 1980 takes a look back.
