5 things you shouldn't miss in Hafling-Vöran-Meran 2000 in 2025

There are places that touch. Not loud, not intrusive - but with a quiet power that lingers. The Tschögglberg high plateau with the villages of Hafling and Vöran and the Meran 2000 hiking area is one of them. Nestled between alpine pastures, forests and peaks, this is a natural and adventure area that will still be full of surprises waiting to be discovered in 2025. We took a look around and found five things you shouldn't miss in 2025. And we promise that these five things will be the moments you take home with you with joy in your heart.

1. sunrise hike to the Stoanernen Mandln or to the Kreuzjoch
It's one of those experiences that you can't really describe in words: setting off early in the morning with a guided group, breathing in the cool, clear air, watching nature wake up - and then standing at the top of the mountain when the sun rises golden over the mountain peaks on the horizon. Every Wednesday from June to October, our hiking guides accompany early risers to the Stoanernen Mandln or the Kreuzjoch. The play of light over the South Tyrolean mountains is breathtaking - and is rounded off with an enjoyable and well-earned breakfast at one of the mountain huts or mountain inns.

2. shooting star viewing on the 10th Lorenzinacht at the Knottnkino open air cinema
A very special ‘cinema’ experience awaits you on 12th August at the Knottnkino - the famous viewing point above Vöran where the starry sky, or rather the Perseids' shower of shooting stars, plays the leading role. Because exactly when most shooting stars are trailing their fine lines across the night sky, an atmospheric evening with soft live music and amateur astronomers from the Gummer observatory awaits you here. The astronomers will bring their telescopes, tell you about the universe and help you not to miss your shooting star. Nature, music and science come together here to create a midsummer night's dream that is best enjoyed in a warm blanket and with an open heart.

Want even more Knottnkino? In 2025, we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of this land art installation. All information and anniversary events can be found at www.hafling.com/knottnkino.

3. experience the Haflinger horses - where they are at home
Anyone who comes to Hafling will inevitably encounter its most famous inhabitant: the Haflinger horse. With their golden mane and calm nature, they are not only part of the landscape, but also the soul of the region. In summer, they graze on the mountain pastures, where you can watch them. But even better: get into the saddle yourself! Whether it's a riding lesson, a guided ride or your first taster ride - at the riding stables in Hafling and Vöran you can meet this gentle mountain companion in a very personal way. An unforgettable experience for children and adults alike.

4. hiking, stopping off, savouring - the South Tyrolean way of life at every turn
With the start of the mountain railways on 9 May, the hiking worlds of Merano 2000 open up again. Whether you take it easy or venture to the summit of the Ifinger, including the via ferrata - here you will find tours of all levels of difficulty. You will not only be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views along the way, but also with culinary discoveries: South Tyrolean classics such as dumplings, bacon and Kaiserschmarrn await you in the rustic mountain huts. The combination of exercise, views and enjoyment makes every hike a well-rounded experience.

5. family happiness: experience and discover nature
2025 will be a particularly exciting year for families. The new Outdoor Kids Camp playground at Merano 2000 opens its doors in July and offers plenty of space for adventures in the great outdoors. But that's just the beginning: the Haflinger Adventure Trail teaches children about the popular horses in a playful way, while the Alpine Bob is guaranteed to get the adrenaline pumping. The little ones can experience quieter moments when they explore the forest with Evi or cook Kaiserschmarrn with Brigitte. Holidays with the family are not only relaxing, but also full of stories to take home with you.

Fantastic views
On a saddle below the Ifinger, 1,250 m above sea level, a small church looks far down into the Meran valley basin. It is not only the people of Hafling who have grown fond of the little St. Kathrein church with its dreamlike view for centuries. Over the years, its unparalleled setting has become the favourite place of many nature lovers, strength seekers and brides and grooms.

100 years of the Meran-Hafling cable car
Exactly 100 years ago - in October 1923 - the Meran/Obermais - Hafling/St. Kathrein cable car was put into operation. In its 61 years of operation, it has achieved more than it seems at first glance. Although there is little to remind us of the installation today, the construction of this cable car was a pioneering technical achievement. Three quarters of all cable cars in the world today still use this principle, which was first applied here by engineer Luis Zuegg. For the village of Hafling, the new, fast connection to the valley brought an economic upswing and the initial spark for tourism.

65 years of the ropeway Vöran-Burgstall
Today’s life in Vöran cannot possibily imagined without the ropeway Vöran-Burgstall. What seems quite normal today, was pure utopia about 150 years ago. Today, the panoramic cable car that connects the low mountain village of Vöran with Burgstall in the Etsch Valley every 20 minutes is a lifeline and sustainable means of transport for commuters, students, sports enthusiasts and hikers.
