Two Winners from Tschögglberg at the Hotel Sustainability Award 2025

The Tschögglberg is setting the standard for sustainable tourism. At the prestigious Hotel Sustainability Award 2025 by Fiera Bolzano, two local businesses were awarded – a strong signal of commitment and innovation.

Hotel and restaurant Zum Hirschen, Jenesien
Hotel and restaurant Zum Hirschen in Jenesien took first place in the Sustainable Tourism Pioneers 360° category. Regional ingredients, the rediscovery of traditional products such as foal meat, young art in the hotel and at the Taberhof, and natural essences in the spa are just a few examples of the holistic approach to sustainability in line with the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Schwarz Distillery, Mölten
The Schwarz Distillery from Mölten impressed the jury in the Sustainable Food & Drink category with its eco-conscious vermouth “Schwarzmut”. Only raw materials from South Tyrol are used in the manufacture of this product. It is bottled in its natural state, in lightweight bottles with labels made from sustainable grass paper and a natural wooden cap. The transport cartons are also simple and natural. They took an excellent third place in this category.
These awards show that sustainability is not just a concept on the Tschögglberg – it’s a way of life, driven by passion, creativity, and vision.

Today, the panoramic cable car that connects the low mountain village of Vöran with Burgstall in the Etsch Valley every 20 minutes is a lifeline and sustainable means of transport for commuters, students, sports enthusiasts and hikers.

100 years of the Meran-Hafling cable car
Exactly 100 years ago - in October 1923 - the Meran/Obermais - Hafling/St. Kathrein cable car was put into operation. In its 61 years of operation, it has achieved more than it seems at first glance. Although there is little to remind us of the installation today, the construction of this cable car was a pioneering technical achievement. Three quarters of all cable cars in the world today still use this principle, which was first applied here by engineer Luis Zuegg. For the village of Hafling, the new, fast connection to the valley brought an economic upswing and the initial spark for tourism.

The Tschögglberg makes itself fit for the future
3 committed tourism associations, 1 shared vision - this is the Tschögglberg tourism region, which was awarded GSTC certification and the South Tyrol Level 3 sustainability label in February 2025. Within just under a year, the tourism associations of Hafling-Vöran-Meran 2000, Mölten and Jenesien developed various measures and projects to turn the Tschögglberg into a sustainable tourism destination. They were supported by the technical expertise of the Ökoinstitut Südtirol | Alto Adige.
