Schneeberg Mountain Hike

Varied circular hike to the historic mining sites in the miner's village of Schneeberg and to the picturesque lake Großer Schwarzsee

The historic village at Schneeberg is situated at 2,355 m and can only be reached on foot via well-maintained trails. Here, you will find a unique place with over 800 years of mining history, surrounded by an impressive high-mountain landscape and complemented by a cozy rest stop.

Important to know: Schneeberg is not a single peak. The name refers to the entire historic mining area. In the Passeiertal Valley, when people talk about "Schneeberg", they primarily mean the miner's village "St. Martin am Schneeberg" with its hut and the adventure mine.

Directions

You start at the Timmelsbrücke bridge (1,760 m) in the municipality Moos in Passeier and follow trail no. 29 past the Tomelekaser towards the Obere Gostalm Alp (1,990 m). From there, continue on trail no. 29 to the Schneeberhütte hut (2,355 m), reaching it in the final section via the Knappensteig educational trail.

Continuing along trail no. 29, you reach the col Karlscharte, the highest point of the hike at 2,666 m. From there, descend to the Timmelsbach stream and continue to the Großer Schwarzsee lake (2,514 m). Here, keep left and follow trail no. 30 down to the idyllic Timmelsalm Alp (2,000 m).

After a relaxing break, follow the easy forest road back to your starting point on the Timmelsjochstraße road.

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
