Fly-fishing and angling in mountain streams and lakes are traditional in South Tyrol/Südtirol. One can go angling on the Passer, Falschauer or Etsch rivers. The Passer is particularly popular as a
fishing destination as it flows directly through Merano/Meran, allowing fishing and angling directly in town. The
fishing ponds in S. Leonardo/St. Leonhard or in the water-rich Val d’Ultimo/Ultental Valley are popular fishing destinations for families. Fly fishing courses are also offered here.
A valid Italian fishing license for tourists (type D) as well as a day-fishing permit for the relevant stretch of water is required. These can be obtained from the
tourist associations of the region and are valid for a period of 10 years all over Italy.
