The Andreas Hofer Trail from St. Leonhard

Cultural and historical trail in the Passeiertal Valley

Directions

You start at the tourist office in St. Leonhard in Passeier an first follow the main road to the left. Then you turn right into Kirchweg and continue to follow trail no. 3.

After that, the path leads along Happergweg to Schildhof Happerg, behind which the forest section begins. There, you continue following the signs until you reach Gerlosweg. After Gerlosweg, you cross the main road to the right and continue on to the historic Sandhof.

The return to St. Leonhard takes you along the Gandellenweg no. 3A or along the Passerweg no. 30 back to the starting point.

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Recommended equipment

Wear sturdy hiking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.

Description to arrive at destination

  • Coming from Merano/Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße/via Passo Giovo SS44 to St. Leonhard/S. Leonardo 
  • Coming from the Jaufenpass/Passo Giovo towards Merano/Meran, take the Jaufenstraße/via Passo Giovo SS44 to St. Leonhard/S. Leonardo 
  • Coming from the Timmelsjoch/Passo Rombo towards Moos/Moso, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße/Via Passo del Rombo towards St. Leonhard/S. Leonardo 

Public transport

Choose an environmentally friendly way to travel and use our public transport:  

  • Busline 240 from Meran towards St. Leonhard, Moos, Pfelders
  • Busline 240 from Pfelders, Moosheading towards St. Leonhard, Meran
  • Busline 239 from the Jaufenpass, from Waltenheading towards St. Leonhard
