… above sea level
…above sea level, 2003
Arnold Mario Dall’O

Arnold Mario Dall’O (Tscherms/Cermes, 1960) created two of the art installations of the art drive in project. A former student of Emilio Vedova at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Venice, Dall’O uses techniques of different art forms–from painting to sculpture, from video to design. He frequently analyzes the meanings of symbols and seeks to reuse and renew obsolete folkloristic imagery. From 1988 to 2002, he was a lecturer in communication design at the Academy of Design of Bozen/Bolzano. He also conceived the basic concept of the Human Shapes project.

For …above sea level, the artist created ten neon sign installations that are placed on the public square in front of the underground car park, in the elevator and in the staircase. Each installation indicates its location’s height above sea level. The artist thus encourages a reflection on the conventionalized concept of measurement by engaging in a dialogue with the architectural layering of the building. The artwork is closely connected to the sound installation …below sea level created by Eduard Demetz.
