Rapid Eye Movement
Rapid eye movement, 2003
Arnold Mario Dall'O

Arnold Mario Dall’O (Tscherms/Cermes, 1960) created two of the art installations of the art drive in project. A former student of Emilio Vedova at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Venice, Dall’O uses techniques of different art forms–from painting to sculpture, from video to design. He frequently analyzes the meanings of symbols and seeks to reuse and renew obsolete folkloristic imagery. From 1988 to 2002, he was a lecturer in communication design at the Academy of Design of Bozen/Bolzano. He also conceived the basic concept of the Human Shapes project.

His second work Rapid eye movement is located on level -1. This multimedia installation consists of eight screens showing an eye that opens and closes itself in five-second intervals. The resulting “game of looks” inverts the typical interaction between the observer and the observed in locations equipped with video surveillance.
