I fuochi del Sacro Cuore

in Alto Adige

Ogni anno, la seconda domenica dopo il Corpus Domini, in tutto l’Alto Adige vengono accesi fuochi sulle montagne per celebrare il profondo legame con la propria terra. Anche a Naturno si mantiene viva questa tradizione.

Le radici di questa usanza risalgono al XIX secolo, come segno del voto al Sacro Cuore pronunciato nel 1796. All’epoca, gli Stati della Contea del Tirolo si riunirono a Bolzano per discutere la minacciosa situazione causata dall’avanzata delle truppe francesi di Napoleone. L’abate di Stams, Sebastian Stöckl, propose di chiedere aiuto divino. Da allora, questo voto viene rinnovato ogni anno e i fuochi vengono accesi sulle cime e sui pendii delle montagne.

La tradizione di accendere fuochi sulle montagne ha origini ancora più antiche, risalenti all’epoca medievale. A metà giugno, durante il solstizio d’estate, il sole raggiunge il suo punto più alto ed è considerato particolarmente potente. Il fuoco, simbolo del sole, rappresentava guarigione, fertilità e benedizione per le persone, gli animali e la natura. In questo giorno più lungo dell’anno, già in epoca precristiana si accendevano fuochi solstiziali purificatori e si celebravano rituali di fertilità. Con la cristianizzazione, questi fuochi vennero accesi in onore dei santi e furono infine sostituiti dai Fuochi del Sacro Cuore.

When the sheep return from their summer pastures to the Schnalstal Valley, a centuries-old tradition comes to life.🐑✨ Transhumance is much more than an impressive sheep drive – it is a living part of the region’s cultural heritage and history.

This year, the return of the flocks will once again be celebrated with traditional shepherds’ festivals featuring music, local specialities and genuine South Tyrolean hospitality. 🎶🍻

📍 Saturday, 12 September 2026 – Vernagt
From 11:00 am, shepherds and drovers will be welcomed at the lake with a large traditional festival. Enjoy traditional music and local specialities in a unique alpine setting.

📍 Sunday, 13 September 2026 – Kurzras
A traditional shepherds’ festival will already be underway from 11:00 am near the “Schofschoad” (collection point). The flock is expected to arrive in Kurzras between 3:00 and 4:00 pm.

Join us as thousands of sheep make their way back to the valley and experience one of Val Senales’ most fascinating living traditions!❤️
