Un'escursione sull'Alta Via della Val Venosta, vicino a Naturno, è ancora considerata una "consiglio segreto" per escursioni di più giorni, ma è una bella alternativa al noto sentiero Alta Via Meranese. 
L'Alta Via della Val Venosta collega i sentieri esistenti e i nuovi sentieri tracciati su una lunghezza di 108 chilometri, che portano dal Messner Mountain Museum di Reinhold Messner presso Castel Juval vicino a Naturno alla sorgente dell'Adige a Resia.

L'Alta Via della Val Venosta mostra quanto la vegetazione in Alto Adige possa essere ricca di contrasti nel più piccolo degli spazi: Mentre percorrete il sentiero Alta Via della Val Venosta attraverso l'arido Monte Sole, avrete sempre davanti a voi la fertile valle e la fitta foresta del Monte Tramontana con le sue imponenti cime montuose come il massiccio dell'Ortles.

Ma il Monte Sole della Val Venosta è unico nella regione alpina: grazie alla sua posizione esposta e a soli 500 mm circa di precipitazioni all'anno, si è formato un paesaggio naturale e culturale unico nel suo genere. Per sopravvivere su terreni aridi e sterili come quelli della steppa, gli abitanti hanno dovuto trovare presto modi e metodi per poter coltivare la loro terra. Così, secoli fa, cominciarono a creare una vasta e fitta rete di canali che deviavano l'acqua da torrenti e sorgenti in alta quota - sono nati i famosi Waalwege o Sentieri della roggia, che oggi fanno parte anche dell' Alta Via della Val Venosta. Questo rende il sentiero un'escursione interessante non solo per gli escursionisti esperti di montagna, ma anche per tutti coloro che vogliono farsi un'idea della storia culturale e della vita dei contadini di montagna.

Il periodo migliore per un'escursione lungo l'Alta Via della Val Venosta va da aprile a ottobre, anche se a causa della posizione esposta può fare molto caldo, soprattutto in piena estate! Inoltre, a causa delle limitate possibilità di alloggio nei masi di montagna, è consigliabile prenotare in anticipo il posto letto.
