Ein Symbol der Südtiroler Tradition

Ein Sprichwort aus Südtirol besagt, dass ein Mann erst vollständig angezogen ist, wenn er seinen Schurz trägt.

Dieser königsblaue Schurz ist ein markantes Kleidungsstück, das vor allem von Handwerkern und Bauern in Südtirol getragen wird und auch heute noch eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Ursprünglich wurde dieser "Firtig" mit einem Brustlatz aus weißem Leinen gefertigt, doch im 19. Jahrhundert wurde die robuste Baumwolle eingeführt, und der blaue Schurz entwickelte sich zum Symbol des Bauernstandes. Er wurde normalerweise über einem karierten Hemd getragen und nur an besonderen Anlässen gegen die Tracht ausgetauscht. Traditionell erhielt ein Junge seinen ersten Schurz an seinem ersten Schultag, oft mit einem einzigartigen Bild oder Spruch bestickt. Jeder erwachsene Mann hatte seinen eigenen knielangen Schurz, der ihm im Alltag gute Dienste leistete. Nach getaner Arbeit wurde der linke Schurzzipfel nach vorne gezogen und hing herab, während der rechte nach oben gezogen und am Rücken befestigt wurde, um den Feierabend anzuzeigen. Manchmal lugte der Schurzzipfel sogar bei Gottesdiensten unter der Jacke hervor. Die Art und Weise, wie der Schurz getragen und gebunden wurde, konnte von Tal zu Tal variieren, aber er bleibt auch heute eine bequeme Arbeitskleidung, die gelegentlich zweckentfremdet wird, sei es als Tragsack, Sähkorb oder Handtuch. Insbesondere bei Arbeiten auf Obstgütern oder in den Weinbergen kann man immer noch oft das leuchtende Blau der Schürze zwischen den Reben sehen.
